Today, Disney were due to announce the plans for the Magic and Wonder for 2013 at a press conference in Miami. The presentation, to be held at the JW Marriott Marquis, was postponed by Disney and they released this statement to the press:

“We appreciate the enthusiasm we’ve seen for the upcoming Disney Cruise Line special announcement originally planned for this Wednesday. However, we’ve decided to postpone the event to a different day. We look forward to contacting you soon with details on a new announcement date and location.”

Although not confirmed, we believe it is linked with the recent tragedy in Italy which saw a Costa ship run aground and capsize last week. The news has given the cruise industry a bit of a battering and it was probably not in Disney’s best interests to hold an event so close to the accident. Not only that, if Disney are planning to return to Europe in 2013 as we are expecting, the port of Civitavecchia could be one of them. There is no news on a rescheduled announcement but we are hoping it will be sometime next week.

We will keep you informed as we find out more.
