It seems that Disney are considering a new movie franchise along the same lines as Pirates of the Caribbean…..this time they’ll be going back to a story and a legend they already know well – Robin Hood.

Entitled “Nottingham & Hood”, Disney have apparently already acquired a script from first time writer Brandon Barker. Disney’s first brush with this infamous outlaw first arrived on screen in 1973 in animated form. Now the studio are looking at a series of live action movies. They’ll be going head to head with Sony Pictures who also have a Robin Hood project in the works. If Disney can work their usual magic though, we may be in for some fantastic, swashbuckling adventures!

As a native of Nottingham, I can say that any movie will be a good thing. People flock to Nottingham Castle, Sherwood Forest and the city to immerse themselves in the legend. As Nottingham’s current Robin Hood (Tim Pollard) says:

“If the film goes ahead it will be a great thing for the city. I’ve met people in other countries who don’t actually realise Nottingham and Sherwood Forest are real places. If this film can bring more people to the city and help them find out more about what is has to offer, then that can only be a good thing.”

Erin Huckle, PR Manager for Experience Nottingham says: “We’re intrigued to hear Disney is planning a new imagining of our legendary outlaw, Robin Hood. As with all of the screen adaptations of his story, this kind of high profile exposure tends to result in an increase in the number of visitors coming to the city and the county to see iconic locations associated with the legend. The film title ‘Nottingham & Hood’ will reaffirm our status as the home of Robin Hood.”

What do you think? Have you had your fill of Robin Hood movies? There was the Kevin Costner version and then that Russell Crowe version….not to mention countless TV shows. Maybe Disney will breathe new life into this old legend. If anyone can do it, Disney can.
