There has been a Disney movie project in the pipeline for some time now mysteriously called “Untitled Disney Mountain Adventure Film” which was originally set to be centered around the Matterhorn tying in with the Disneyland Attraction. With Ehren Kruger (Transformers: Dark of The Moon) on board it was now said yesterday that the scope of the film had been broadened beyond the Matterhorn, which could nod at a tie – in with Expedition Everest and a possible refurbishment of the ‘Disco Loving’ Yeti inhabitant (dubbed so due to his crazy strobe lighting and being stuck in a disco like pose, no longer able to swoop down and eat guests – poor guy).
Original Storyline:
“The story centers on five young adventure seekers — an action sports guy, travel guide, cartographer, archeologist and escape artist — who venture into the Alps for mysterious reasons and face Yetis that guard a secret.”
It would be great if this turned out to be true and Disney were able to rescue this amazing feat of Imagineering to tie in with the launch of the film. It is a true testament to the Disney story telling ethos and the extraordinary effort that goes into producing fully immersive experiences for guests. For those of you who haven’t seen it there is a 5 part Documentary about the making of Expedition Everest that originally aired on the Discovery Channel and Disney Parks have them all on their official channel. The video below is part four and shows our Yeti friend in all his moving glory (apporx 2.40 mins in):
Maybe this is why they have held back on fixing him for so long, maybe they are going to tweak the attraction to fit the film, it wouldn’t be the 1st time an existing attraction was modified to fit a film franchise at Disney (Countdown to Extinction to Dinosaur and Pirates gaining Jack Sparrow and Friends).
We are keeping our ears to the mountain on this one and as we get more news we’ll update you… if the Yeti doesn’t get us first!
The big question is will this be finished and released before the Jungle Cruise movie starring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen that has been slated since 2007 ?
