In a recent interview with the Telegraph newspaper, Idina Menzel has let slip that Frozen 2 is in the pipeline!
Frozen has just been rereleased theatrically, and the filmmakers have made a new six-minute short that will play in cinemas in the coming festive season. There are also rumours of a sequel and a stage musical. What can Menzel tell us of those plans?
“That they’re all in the works, ha ha!”
Is she signed up for them all?
“Ah, yeah sure… Not the stage show – I don’t know what will happen with that – but the movie hopefully. We’ll see. I’m just going along for the ride,” she says.
To be honest why wouldn’t you release a sequel. If the demand is there surely to run a happy mouse house you give the people what they want. The Film has had record takings at the box office, saw a sing along version get released shortly after. No it has been reissued to cinemas again. At this rate the Special release DVD box set will be next year, followed by another tweaked version every year after.
Where does the Frozen love end? The Sisters have hi jacked the lighting of the Castle at the Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World. They are integrated into the parades, have extended queues for meet and greets. Disney had to even think of a new queuing system to accommodate demand! Frozen the Musical is in development for Broadway. Maelstrom in Epcot was given the axe, when it was clear that Elsa and Ana could be squeezed in.
In fact I’m going to stick my neck on the line and say that I will be very VERY disappointed if Frozen isn’t included in the new reworking for the Great Movie Ride. Even if it is only in the final montage scene.
Up until now the Frozen 2 concept had only been rumours. Rumours including Jack Frost or an Ice King seem to be the strongest. Although Idina has mentioned that she is “signed up for them all”, this could just be a Disney contractual agreement, that if in the future they decide to add a sequel she would be called upon.
We’ll have to wait and see. Are you looking forward to Frozen 2 or should Disney just Let go of it? (see how I awkwardly avoided the quote!!)
